Strawberries are everyone’s favorite fruit. This web site will tell you about this delicious berry and also educate you on the health benefits of strawberries and blueberries . Read on to find out about the Bauer Berry Farm and how you can be a part of the new health revolution.
The Bauer Berry Farm has operated as a family farm since 1977. Throughout the years we have attempted to reduce our impact on the environment. We have planted wind shelter belts and rye cover crops to minimize soil erosion. A grass buffer zone around our wetland reduces run-off. We have introduced the use of many organic plant and soil amendments to our crops. We monitor our fields and apply pesticides only when absolutely necessary.
With your choice to visit our farm and buy locally, you are assured of the freshest produce with reduced synthetic chemical input. We believe that health comes from the farm, not the pharmacy.
After 39 Years
We are proud of our long time standing in the berry business and thought we’d share the cumulative effect of all these years. Just think of the volumes:
To produce over one million pounds of strawberries in 38 years, it has taken:
- 800 teenage employees
- 600,000 new strawberry plants
- 4,000 tons of straw
- 50,000 cars through our gates
- 100,000 hours of labor
- 3,000 trees planted as shelter belts
The list could continue, and we never kept track of the number of weeds pulled or miles of irrigation pipe we carried across the fields.
In spite of all the hard work, we have been rewarded by working with eager teenagers, greeting the morning sun each day, and meeting all the thousands of wonderful customers just like you.
We can’t say that we’ll be around for another twenty six years, but we’re still trying to perfect our growing system and incorporate more organic components. For us, the rewards of farming are being close to the earth, being part of the creation of food from sun, water and air, and finally, sharing the abundance of the harvest.
